Arsenal go into the World Cup break at the summit of the Premier League table, five points clear of Pep Guardiola’s City side.

Due to this year’s strange scheduling, Mikel Arteta's side are now guaranteed the top spot at Christmas - a marker that admittedly holds less value this season.

A key part of the Gunners’ success this term has been their back four. They hold the joint-meanest defence in the league, having conceded just 11 goals in their 14 games played.

And Arsenal shot-stopper Ramsdale was keen to praise his backline for how effectively they’ve protected his goal.

“Man mountain” Saliba

Ramsdale praised 21-year-old centre-back Saliba, who has established himself as a key figure in manager Arteta’s team this term, having been farmed out on loan the previous three seasons.

On the France international, Ramsdale said: “Ah, [he's a] man mountain honestly. He glides across the pitch, he doesn’t really seem to sprint. He gets his big arm across people.

“So, the guys got everything, honestly, and he’s showing it on the pitch.

“He’s keeping some of the best strikers in the league quiet at the minute and all the credit goes to him.”

Arsenal is Arteta’s vision

Ramsdale also reserved special praise for his Arsenal boss Arteta. The Spaniard has defied doubters and built a young and dynamic Arsenal side.

Ramsdale said: “He’s created this squad, this young team. A young man himself. He’s creating the environment which was his vision.

“He needed time, which he got given, which is always great to see as a football club, and we’re showing what he wants us to do now.

“Listen that could end in something great, it could end in something normal. It’s just been giving him time to produce what he’s done with the squad.

“The young talents which we’ve got are a reflection of him.”
