Ashley Young ruthlessly mocks Liverpool as they look set to finish outside of the Champions League spots

Former Manchester United star Ashley Young poked fun at Liverpool following Aston Villa's draw at Anfield.

Ashley Young ruthlessly trolled Liverpool after Aston Villa held them to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, denting their Champions League hopes.

Young was a substitute in his side's draw at Anfield as Liverpool look destined to finish outside of the top-four this season.

Jurgen Klopp's side currently sit in fifth place, with 66 points on the board - three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have played a game fewer than their domestic rivals.

And Young, who enjoyed nine seasons at Old Trafford, poked fun at Liverpool's misery, with Man United fans loving his antics on social media.

After the result, he took to social media to mock Liverpool as he quote-tweeted a video of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher talking up the top-four on Sky Sports.

He tweeted: "Nothing like a plan coming together, OOPS," while tagging Neville on Twitter.

Naturally, Man United fans online loved Young taunting Liverpool.

One Twitter user wrote: "My captain, my legend…. Youngy tell them."

A second tweeted: "Forever ours. Love you Ashley."

A third added: "True Manchester United Legend. We noticed your hard work. Well done."

A fourth said: "Once a red, always a red."

Another commented: "Well in Ashley! Great performance from you lot yesterday!"

Young, 37, is in his second spell at Villa, having enjoyed a five-year stint earlier in his career. He's played a big part in his team's campaign, making 31 appearances in all competitions this term.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are on course to finish in fifth place, which would mean Europa League football for next season.

Speaking after the game, Klopp claimed: "I think the whole season is rather a season where we qualify for Europa League than for Champions League. We were for too long not good enough or ourselves."
