Aussie legend Harry Kewell receives rare 'heroes' card on FIFA 23

This year the ‘Heroes’ cards are even more spectacular as they come as part of a collaboration between EA Sports and Marvel.

The man, the myth, the Aussie legend, Harry Kewell is once again putting on his boots, albeit on FIFA 23.

The Australian football icon is returning to our screens after he was granted a FIFA Ultimate Team ‘Heroes’ card on the upcoming FIFA 23 game.

This year the ‘Heroes’ cards are even more spectacular as they come as part of a collaboration between EA Sports and Marvel.

The left-footed magician who has lived on in the hearts and minds of Socceroos fans everywhere was aptly handed the title ‘The Wizard of Aus’ as part of his unique animated FUT23 card design.

The ‘Heroes’ card has been in the football game since 2015, however, this is the first year that a brand such as Marvel has come on board, and it’s safe to say the unique designs will add a really cool flavour to the upcoming edition.

Kewell’s ‘superhero’ card design has him looking like a cross between Spider-Man villains Mysterio and Green Goblin with his green and gold-themed outfit.

But hey, we reckon he looks schmick on that card.

It signals Kewell’s return to the video game for the first time in eight years, so his new card will be a huge asset to Aussie football fans.

Kewell told Press Start: “Being out of the game and now being able to be back in it again, it shows the support that FIFA has given me, to bring me back now as a special character – as a hero – it’s lovely. It’s a great feeling.”

The former Liverpool player added that it’s a nice feeling to be part of a game his son plays.

He continued: “To be able to sit here now and, like I said, to be part of it. My son plays it, too – I would play every now and then and he would beat me!! Now he’s 21… and he can turn and say, “look, that’s my dad’.

“Like I said, it’s a nice touch. It’s not a little thing, it’s a huge thing. But for me, it’s something that I can go back and go, wow, well yeah, I did do alright in the game of football.”

Kewell joins an elite group of players who are heading up the new EA Sports and Marvel collaboration.

The gaming company kicked off the announcement of the cards by revealing the likes of Yaya Toure, Park Ji-Sung, Claudio Marchisio, Ricardo Carvalho, and Landon Donovan.

In the latest drop that includes Kewell, he’s been joined by some fellow Liverpool legends in Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt.

The former winger played 181 games for Leeds United before joining Liverpool where he made a further 50 appearances in the English Premier League.

The Aussie hero was instrumental in securing Australia’s first birth in the FIFA World Cup knockout stages when he scored a goal against Croatia in the group stages of the 2006 finals.
