Barcelona could sell some of their biggest stars including Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong

Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong could be sold in the summer.

Barcelona could sell some of their biggest stars in order to raise £178 million to balance their books amid their financial woes.

The Catalan giants are unable to sign any new players during the summer transfer window following their reckless splurge last summer.

La Liga chief executive Javier Tebas slammed the club's transfer dealings and said they would have to make cuts of around £178 million.

"We have strict economic controls. At the end of each window, we tell all the clubs in La Liga what they can spend," he said.

"In the case of Barcelona, they have to drop from spending on wages and transfers from 650m euros to 450m euros - so it’s a budget of minus 200m euros."

Barca asked first-team players to take pay cuts, but they will look to raise funds by offloading their star players at the end of the season, according to The Sun.

Several first-team players could be sold including Robert Lewandowski, Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha, among others.

Speculation has grown over the future of Lewandowski, who only joined last summer. He's scored an impressive 25 goals in all competitions this season, but he could transferred to help the club's financial situation.

De Jong has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with Erik ten Hag thought to be very keen on snapping him at Manchester United.

Not to mention Raphinha, who also moved last summer. A Premier League return could be on the cards for the former Leeds United winger as Arsenal and Newcastle United are believed to be interested in signing the Brazilian.

Barca could also be prepared to sell the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet, Alex Collado and Sergino Dest, who are all currently on loan away from the Camp Nou. Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati are also on the chopping block.

Xavi's team face a potential mass exodus in the summer as they look to raise funds to correct their financial problems.
