Gerard Pique sent off in his last ever game as a professional football player

Gerard Pique sent off in his last ever game as a professional football player

An evening to forget for the Spaniard.

Gerard Pique had an evening to forget as his final match as a professional footballer ended with a red card after he was dismissed at half-time.

Barcelona found themselves 1-0 down against Osasuna after David Garcia netted in the sixth minute. Things quickly went from bad to worse for Xavi as his star striker, Robert Lewandowski was shown a second yellow card in the 31st minute.

The Camp Nou club went into half-time one goal down and a man down. In what was his final match as a professional, Pique was seen having words with the assistant referee and then decided to follow the referee down the tunnel after the half-time whistle. Referee Jesus Gil then showed a straight red card to the former Spanish international.

Pique said his goodbyes last week after making a final appearance for Barcelona at Camp Nou.

After the match, he said: "I was born here and I will die here.

"When you get older, you realise that sometimes to love is to let go. I'm convinced that I'll be here again in the future.

"I love Barca. That's why I consider it the right moment to go. This is not a goodbye."

In the second half, Barcelona’s new star Pedri managed to score the equaliser in the 48th minute. In the 57th minute, Barcelona manager Xavi was shown a yellow card after he was complaining about a decision.
