Barcelona's financial problems are seriously hindering them on deadline day

La Liga giants Barcelona aren't strangers to being left high and dry by their own financial problems and it's happening again.

Barcelona have once again been hampered by their financial problems, as they've failed with a deadline deal due to their inability to include a mandatory deal at the end of a loan.

Just how bad Barcelona's finances are really came to light in the summer of 2021, when Lionel Messi was forced to leave the club when they couldn't sign him to a new deal.

Ever since then it's seen like a constant balancing act at the Nou Camp when it's come to signing new players, with current players having to take wage cuts in order to register new ones.

Gavi is the latest player that has really hit, with the midfielder unable to have his contract extended, his release clause increased or even wear the number six shirt.

Whilst fans have questioned Chelsea's ability to sign so many players despite UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules, Barca's problems are more to do with Spain's particular set of laws.

And their latest attempt at bringing someone in on loan on transfer deadline day has also been hit, because they can't afford a clause in the deal.

According to everyone's favourite transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano, the club attempted to bring in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat until the end of the season.

However, the Serie A side wouldn't let him go without an obligation to buy, and the Spanish league leaders couldn't afford to include one, meaning the deal couldn't be done.

There would have been no upside for Fiorentina to loan out one of their best players with no guarantee that they were getting a fee for him in the future.

Amrabat impressed for Morocco during the World Cup, with the Africans becoming the first side from their continent to reach the semi-finals stage.

He obviously did enough to attract interest from the Catalan giants, despite the brilliance of the likes of Gavi and Pedri in midfield.

They are likely to need a long term replacement for Sergio Busquets at some point in the not too distant future, and the Fiorentina star might have been that player.

It's no real surprise that Barcelona were one of the team's leading the charge for the European Super League, as they attempted to make themselves more money.

President Joan Laporta is still pushing for it as well, despite the fact the teams were recently dealt a blow in the courts about it.
