Barcelona have been busy adding to their squad in the summer transfer window and their updated salary list for the new season is crazy.
Despite the well documented financial troubles that the Camp Nou club have been hit with, it hasn’t stopped them splashing the cash on players. According to Spanish news outlet SPORT, Barcelona’s annual report showed that their total debt rose to a huge €1.173 billion.
To date, they have brought in Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie on free transfers, but did fork out around £140 million for the signings of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, Jules Kounde from Sevilla and Brazilian winger Raphinha from Leeds United.
In terms of outgoings, a total of £23.4 million has been raised from players sold, with a majority of that amount coming from the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Aston Villa.

In order to make sure they have the necessary funds for new players, they have been working behind the scenes to sell some of the club’s most prized assets.
The club have sold a large majority of their domestic television rights and are working to sell half of their licensing and merchandising division.
A reason behind Barcelona’s economic problems is the wages they pay their players. The club have even had to ask players to defer their wages or take pay cuts in order to cut costs.
Thanks to data from Capology, a list of the top 20 highest paid players at Barcelona has been compiled, the figures are staggering.

New signing Lewandowski is ranked fourth with a wage of £302,208 per week. Sitting on top of the list is Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, with an eye watering weekly wage of £470,156, it is no wonder why the club are trying so hard to sell the player this summer.
However, their efforts to offload De Jong have not come to fruition as the player has showed no signs of wanting to leave the Catalan giants.
With four years left on his current deal, it has been reported that the Dutchman is keen to remain in Spain. To make matters worse for Barcelona, they are yet to pay deferred wages worth £14 million to the 25-year-old.

Manchester United have been trying ever so hard to lure De Jong to Old Trafford with Erik ten Hag desperate to have the midfielder in his ranks. A deal was agreed with Barcelona earlier in the month but the deal is on the verge of collapsing due to De Jong’s unwillingness to leave.
