Borussia Dortmund chief opens up on possible Cristiano Ronaldo move

Borussia Dortmund chief opens up on possible Cristiano Ronaldo move

Ronaldo's last hope of a move could be Borussia Dortmund, after every other Champions League team seems to have passed on the opportunity.

Cristiano Ronaldo's potential future has taken a fresh twist, with one Borussia Dortmund chief calling the transfer a 'charming idea.'

Ronaldo has been running out of choices of where to end up, if he leaves Manchester United this summer, ever since he told the club he wanted to leave.

In the past there might have been hoards of teams running to snap up the five time Ballon d'Or winner but this summer it's mainly been clubs distancing themselves from signing him.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea were both heavily linked, but both then decided against a move, with Thomas Tuchel at the heart of the decision from the Blues, even if United were urged to sell to the west Londoners.

Earlier this week it was reported that former side Sporting wanted to bring him back to Lisbon, but Ronaldo's desire to win the Champions League seem to have ruled that out.

Dortmund were then claimed to be the only 'viable' option left for the 37-year-old and now club chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has had his say on a possible deal.

"I love him as a player, it’s certainly a charming idea to see Cristiano Ronaldo play at Signal Iduna Park," the German enthusiastically started.

However, that optimism for the United forward was soon killed off, with Watzke adding, "But there is no contact at all between the parties involved. So from now on, you should stop talking about it."

It's been a bit of an upheaval at Dortmund upfront this summer, after Erling Haaland was signed by Manchester City at the end of last season.

They secured the signing of Karim Adeyemi and Sebastian Haller quite early on, however the former Ajax forward was diagnosed with testicular cancer just weeks after his move.

With Haller out for the near future, the Bundesliga club went back into the transfer market to sign Anthony Modeste from Koln, after the striker's brilliant time with Dortmund's fellow German side.

With all that in mind it always seemed unlikely that Edin Terzic would ever add Ronaldo to his squad, it's not really how Dortmund operate anyway.

That means the former Real Madrid star might have to wait for another club to come along, or just get used to being at Old Trafford for another year.
