World Cup favourites Brazil take on South Korea in the round-of-16 in Qatar.

World Cup favourites Brazil take on South Korea in the round-of-16 in Qatar.

Brazil continue their push to claim a record-extending sixth World Cup against South Korea, off the back of a shock 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in their last group match.

Tite has faced unexpectedly fierce criticism back home for fielding a weakened team in Brazil’s last group game.

Nevertheless, the five-time champions will be boosted by the return of talisman Neymar, who has been back in training for the last couple of days.

South Korea qualified for the last 16 at the expense of Ghana and Uruguay, after Wolves frontman Hwang Hee-chan scored a stoppage-time winner against Portugal in their last group game.

But will the might of Brazil be too much for the south Asian side?

Here is all you need to know about the official for the last-16 clash.

Clement Turpin

The referee for the match is Clement Turpin.

It will be the Frenchman’s third game of the tournament, and his second involving Paulo Bento’s side, having taken charge of South Korea’s goalless draw against Uruguay.

Turpin is one of the most experienced referees at this year's World Cup. The 40-year-old began his career in France’s National League in 2006, but within two years had reached Ligue 1.

In 2010 the referee was awarded FIFA-listed status, meaning he could officiate across Europe. Since, he has taken charge in 2014 and 2018 World Cup qualifiers and finals, while he refereed at the 2016 Euros, which took place in his own country.

In his two games in Qatar he has so far shown three yellow cards and awarded a penalty.
