BREAKING: David de Gea confirms he will LEAVE Man Utd this summer after 12 years at the club

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has confirmed he will leave Old Trafford this summer after 12 years with the club.

The Spaniard released a statement on Twitter which read: "I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters.

"I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I took incredible pride everytime I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers.

"It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here. I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together.

"Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings.

"Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me.

"We’ve seen it all."

The decision comes after months of speculation over his future at the club, with both parties unable to agree over the terms a new contract for the 32-year-old shot stopper.

It remains to be seen where De Gea will move to next, but the Red Devils are thought to have Inter Milan's Andre Onana lined up as a replacement.

The 27-year-old Cameroon International has already agreed personal terms with United and is set to move to Old Trafford for a fee in the region of £43million.

Despite a shaky end to the campaign which saw De Gea come under criticism for blunders against Sevilla, West Ham United and Manchester City in the FA Cup final, he still picked up the Premier League Golden Glove award.

He joined United from Atletico Madrid at the age of 21 in 2011 for a fee of £18.9million deal and went on to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, two League Cups and the Europa League.

De Gea made a club-record 545 appearances for a goalkeeper and kept 190 clean sheets in that time.
