Alexis Mac Allister's interview after Man United win felt like a goodbye

Alexis Mac Allister's interview after Man United win felt like a goodbye

Alexis Mac Allister's interview after scoring the goal to beat Manchester United looked like a farewell.

Fans think Alexis Mac Allister gave a goodbye interview after scoring the winner for Brighton against Manchester United.

The in-demand Argentine midfielder popped up with a 99th minute penalty, awarded after VAR showed that the ball had struck Luke Shaw's raised hand as he tried to defend a last-gasp corner.

Mac Allister stepped up and smashed the penalty in the top left corner, sending David de Gea the wrong way and sparking some special celebrations at the AMEX.

Mac Allister has been heavily linked with a move away from Brighton in recent times, with reports claiming that Liverpool have already made a first approach to the player.

The World Cup winner appears nailed on to leave Brighton after four years and 106 appearances and his post-match interview has only furthered that belief for many.

Mac Allister expressed his appreciation for what Brighton have done for him and it sounded very much like a farewell.

"I know what this club gave to me and I'm really grateful, really happy to be here," he told Sky Sports.

"I try to transmit that to my teammates, the young players, the South American players that we've got.

"It's a fantastic team, like a family. Every time I get to the pitch I really enjoy it."

But while Brighton still have six games left in what has been a marvellous season in the Premier League, plenty think Mac Allister is on the move.

One Liverpool fan commented: "Farewell interview. Get innn."

A second supporter tweeted: "Bro is bouncing as soon as that window opens."

A third agreed: "Already saying goodbye to Brighton."

Another wrote: "He’s speaking in past tense."

A fifth added: "Farewell speech."

Mac Allister joined Brighton in January 2019 from Argentinos Juniors but was sent back to the club on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

He then headed on loan to Boca Juniors with brother Kevin before making his Brighton debut on 7 March 2020.

In the last two campaigns, Mac Allister has cemented his place as one of the best midfielders in the league and his stunning, triumphant World Cup campaign with Argentina in Qatar has only enhanced his reputation.
