Gary Neville rages at 'embarrassing' Bruno Fernandes for Man United display vs Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp's side won 7-0 at Anfield in a shocking display from Erik ten Hag's Man United

An angry Gary Neville labelled Bruno Fernandes an embarrassment for his antics during Manchester United's shocking defeat to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's side ran in six goals in an appalling second half for United at Anfield, sealing an incredible 7-0 victory after it had been 1-0 at the break – and goalless after 43 minutes.

United's players lost their heads in a listless second 45 minutes, to sink to their record defeat in the Premier League era, and worst ever at the hands of Liverpool.

Fernandes had a particularly poor game and at one stage appeared to be complaining to his manager Erik ten Hag that he hadn't been subbed off.

"The second half has been an absolute disgrace, a shambles," said former United defender Neville, who was commentating on the game.

"They have not been epitomised more than Bruno Fernandes, who has been embarrassing – a shambles – in this game."

And another moment angered Neville, too, when Fernandes went down under minimal contact from Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

Fernandes held his face after being pushed off by Konate, only the Liverpool man had made contact with the Portuguese's chest.

"There was a VAR check for an elbow - it was on his chest," Neville said while watching a replay on Sky Sports.

"Oh, he holds his face. That's embarrassing from Bruno Fernandes.

"It's on his chest and he goes down. He's so frustrating at times."

United will want to move on as quickly as possible from the game, which saw Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah all grab braces, with Roberto Firmino rounding off the scoring. It will be a bitter pill to swallow for Ten Hag, who has made huge progress with United since taking over as manager, but this is a reality check.
