Bruno Fernandes Told He's Setting A 'Bad Example' To One Manchester United Player

Fernandes has been criticised for his body language.

Bruno Fernandes has been told he's currently setting a 'bad example' to Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood and other youngsters at the club.

Fernandes hasn't hidden his frustrations on the pitch this season during a difficult run for United, who sit seventh in the Premier League.

The Portugal international's return of five goals in 25 appearances is low and he's been criticised by pundits for his body language on the pitch.

Alan Hutton thinks senior players need to keep their composure when on the pitch and named Fernandes as a main culprit.

"Obviously we're not privy to what's going on in the dressing room, but there is a lot of noise around Manchester United at the moment," the former Scotland defender explained to Football Insider.

"It's not good. I'm hearing about things behind the scenes and that the dressing room isn't happy. The biggest thing for me, from the outside looking in, is the body language of some of the players.

"You can be going through a slump, which is fine, but you're still tackling, you're still running about the pitch.

"Bruno Fernandes for one, a fantastic player, been excellent since he's come to the club.

"He's throwing his hands up in the air, blaming other people. This is the guy that these youngsters, like Greenwood, would look towards to really help them moving forward."

Fernandes arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting CP in January 2020 and he managed to change United's fortunes almost immediately.

He's been their most influential player since joining, with his performances having a massive baring on if United win games or not.

Meanwhile, Greenwood is regarded as one of the best young players in England and one of the best finishers ever produced at Carrington.

The 20-year-old is at his best up front, but the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer means he spends more time on the right.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick chose to implement a 4-2-2-2 formation when he arrived in December and Greenwood often players wide with Fernandes.

United are six points outside the top four and it'll go down as an underwhelming campaign.

Ronaldo's return in the summer alongside the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane saw many tip the Red Devils as title challengers.

United ran out 1-0 winners against Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Monday evening and they face Steven Gerrard's side in league action on Saturday.
