Harry Kane 'deadly serious' about potential shock career change when football days are over

Harry Kane is 'deadly serious' about potentially pursuing a career in a sport other than football once he has hung up his boots.

Kane, 30, is enjoying a hugely impressive debut season in German football after moving to Bayern Munich from Tottenham in the summer.

The England international has already scored 22 goals in just 19 games for the Bavarian club to cement his status as one of the best players of his generation.

Kane will come up against familiar opposition on Tuesday night when Bayern face Manchester United in the Champions League.

United need to beat Bayern, who have already booked their place in the last 16, and hope that Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen draw in order to progress to the knockouts.

Ahead of the match, Kane sat down with The Standard to discuss his new life in Germany and what he misses about England.

The interview also touched on Kane's love for another sport – American football.

When asked if there was one other sport he would have excelled at, Kane said: "I do love American sports. Maybe I'd have ventured out to America and tried a bit in the NFL."

Kane, described in the piece as being 'deadly serious', then added: "I don't think it's having a laugh. I think it’s more just exploring that option.

"I just think I’ve been able to kick in those situations – a lot of pressure situations.

"I know it'd be a lot of hard work and it'd be a lot of dedication. It won't be as easy just rocking up and doing it."

When asked if he could see himself moving to the USA to pursue a new career in the NFL, Kane added: "Yeah, let's see.

"I've always said it depends on certain situations and circumstances."

To the relief of Bayern Munich and England supporters, his clarified he has no plans to retire.

"I've still got plenty of years left in my football career," added the striker.

Kane wouldn't be the first football player to make the move to the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys' starting kicker Brandon Aubrey played for MLS side Toronto FC and lower league side Bethlehem Steel FC before joining the Cowboys in July.

He made history during Monday's 33–13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, becoming the first kicker to convert their first 30 field goals.
