Bayern Munich make Thomas Tuchel sack decision after third defeat in nine days

Bayern Munich make Thomas Tuchel sack decision after third defeat in nine days

Bayern's season is falling apart.

Bayern Munich have made a decision on the future of manager Thomas Tuchel with their season threatening to fall apart.

On Sunday Bayern lost 3-2 to VfL Bochum, their third defeat in nine days and one that has surely ended their Bundesliga title hopes.

Tuchel's side lost 1-0 to Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday, days after they were thrashed 3-0 by title rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern now find themselves eight points behind Bundesliga leaders Leverkusen with just 12 matches left to play.

Despite the sensational form of Harry Kane this season - the former Tottenham Hotspur striker has scored 29 goals in 30 games in all competitions - Bayern have regressed under Tuchel this season.

There have been plenty of reports and rumours in recent weeks that Bayern bosses are set to call time on Tuchel's tenure, but they look set to give the coach more time.

According to a report from Bild, Bayern have no plans to replace Tuchel.

Former Bayern boss Hansi Flick has been touted as a potential Tuchel successor, but prominent club board member Uli Hoeness is allegedly not convinced that Flick could rescue Bayern's season.

After the defeat to Bochum, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said that Tuchel will “of course” be in charge for Bayern’s next match against RB Leipzig on Saturday, a must-win fixture.

However, he didn't rule out dismissing the coach at a later stage.

"These vows of loyalty are usually gone again after a week, so I say it in my own way," Dreesen said.

"I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat myself, it’s not an issue that we’re concerned with at the moment."

Tuchel has only been Bayern manager since March 2023, when he replaced Julian Nagelsmann in the dugout.

The 50-year-old tactician won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, but was sacked in 2022 after failing to see eye-to-eye with new owner Todd Boehly.
