Calls For Bruno Fernandes To Be New Manchester United Captain After Strong Post-Match Interview

Calls For Bruno Fernandes To Be New Manchester United Captain After Strong Post-Match Interview

Bruno Fernandes gave a strong post-match interview after Manchester United beat Leeds 4-2 at Elland Road.

Manchester United fans are demanding for Bruno Fernandes to be named as the club's permanent captain after his strong interview following the 4-2 win over Leeds United.

Fernandes scored in the six-goal thriller, which was the first time the iconic fixture was played in front of fans at Elland Road since Leeds returned to the Premier League.

The Portugal international has worn the armband on a number of occasions for United and is recognised as one of the biggest personalities in the dressing room.

And he's gone even further up in United supporters' estimations after his latest interview.

On Twitter, Fernandes posted a picture of him in between centre-backs Raphael Varane and Eric Bailly during training, captioning it, "Feeling very safe in between these two" with a laugh emoji.

Some interpreted it as a dig at skipper Harry Maguire, who has been widely criticised in recent times.

But Fernandes gave an emphatic response where he called people out for blowing the post out of proportion and making stories.

“Honestly, I think people question everything at this club. Every week we have a new story about something,” Fernandes told Premier League Productions.

“I posted a photo on Instagram where I was [pictured] with Rapha [Varane] and Eric [Bailly] and I said, ‘I feel very secure in the middle with these two’, meaning, ‘security’ like if [someone] comes they are like my bodyguards. And people were complaining [that] I was throwing something at Maguire.

But Maguire was not the only defender who was not in the photo. Lindelof was not in the photo, Phil Jones was not in the photo.

“People want to complain and want to make stories around us, but the most important [thing] is that we stick together and do our jobs on the pitch.

“Obviously, everyone is really happy with H [Maguire] because it’s really tough being in his place in the last period.

“Honestly, we all have bad games. And when we don’t win it’s not because H is not playing well, or Bruno is not playing well, it’s because the team is not playing well and it’s not performing in the right way.

“For us inside the dressing room is not where we blame someone, but [to] understand how we come out of bad situations.”

Fernandes did not shy away from his true feelings and United fans loved the way he displayed leadership and defended the club with a clear message.

So much so, many are demanding for the former Sporting to be named captain:
