Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar makes some extraordinary claims about Mohamed Salah's ability

Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar makes some extraordinary claims about Mohamed Salah's ability

This isn't the first time Aboubakar has criticised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Cameroon international Vincent Aboubakar has doubled down on his comments about Mohamed Salah and says he "doesn't give a toss" if people don't like it.

The 30-year-old striker, who lifted the Golden Boot at this year's Africa Cup of Nations after scoring eight goals, was far from complimentary about the Egyptian forward in February.

Ahead of their AFCON semi-final clash against Egypt, Al Nassr's experienced number nine gave his brutally honest thoughts on Salah's ability during an interview with RFI.

"He doesn't impress me much," Aboubakar said. "I say it clearly because I'm an honest person and I have my way of seeing things. If he impressed me, I would say so. But he doesn't impress me much. He's a good player, he scores a lot but he doesn't produce a lot of stuff in the game."

Aboubakar added: "Of course, he's doing good stuff in the Premier League because he's been in a team that's been there for years. He's a good player but not at the level of some like [Kylian] Mbappe."

Nine months on and the Cameroon international was once again asked about Liverpool forward Salah.

It's fair to say his opinions haven't changed one bit. "I'm not impressed by him," he told 90FootballFr. "I can do what he does. I just don't have the opportunity to play in a big club.

"I understand people's attitudes, he's one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League. It makes sense that when you go on about a player like that, people will talk.

"But I did say that it was my opinion, my point of view. I don't give a toss if people don't like it."

Earlier this year, Salah ended up having the last laugh when Egypt beat hosts Cameroon on penalties to go through to the Africa Cup of Nations final.

After the full-time whistle, Aboubakar walked straight through the media mix zone and refused to answer questions about his opponent.

Senegal, meanwhile, went on to beat Egypt in the final on penalties as match winner Sadio Mane consoled then-Liverpool teammate Salah after dispatching from the spot.
