"He'd better pray to god that I don't find him" - Canelo Alvarez threatens Lionel Messi

"He'd better pray to god that I don't find him" - Canelo Alvarez threatens Lionel Messi

"He should ask God that I don't find him."

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is absolutely fuming with Lionel Messi.

The boxing world champion has threatened Messi with violence after footage emerged of the football megastar appearing to kick a Mexican flag in Argentina's dressing room.

Some people are even claiming that Messi was using the green, red and white flag to clean the changing room floors.

Argentina had just defeated Mexico 2-0 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Messi dragged his side kicking and screaming to victory, bagging a goal and an assist to give Argentina their first points in Group C.

But it was the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's actions after the match which has upset a portion of fans – Canelo being one of them.

Footage has surfaced online showing the Argentina team celebrating the win and now Messi has been accused of using a Mexican flag to clean the dressing room floors.

Boxing royalty Canelpo lead the chorus of angry Mexican supporters.

He tweeted: "Saw Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag.

"He should ask God that I don't find him.

"Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico! I'm not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls**t that Messi did."

When ESPN posted Canelo's warning on Twitter, fans were quick to comment.

One person asked: "Who else thinks @Canelo is overreacting?"

While another added: "Messi is not the kind of man that does something like that with bad intention. He was just taking his cleats off and the t-shirt was on them. Thats all."

As a third chimed in, saying: "Just with that, @Canelo wants to start a fight? Is the anger/big enough to get into a fight it? Let it go Canelo. Messi isn't a bad person. Just ignore it if this bothers you, that negative energy isn't worth having."

One bloke saw the funny side of things, jokingly adding: "Not a big Messi fan but let's be honest here, he's more athletic than Canelo and if the fight goes long cardio can help him win."

At this point in time, Messi is yet to respond to Canelo's message – he's probably got a World Cup to focus on.

This isn't the first time Canelo has given his opinion on the Barcelona legend.

In an interview with BT Sport last year, Canelo claimed Messi is "one of the best players," seemingly being slightly more complimentary compared to when he was asked about Manchester United's Ronaldo, who he only thought of as a "great player".

After this recent incident, though, his views on Messi may have changed.
