Casemiro singles out Man United star as 'great player' in first interview for the club

Casemiro heaped praise on his Man United teammate.

Manchester United new boy Casemiro has singled out Fred as a 'great player' ahead of potentially becoming midfield partners.

Casemiro has completed his stunning move to Man United, joining the club in a transfer worth £70 million.

He brings a wealth of experience to the team and bolsters Erik ten Hag's midfield options for the rest of the season.

And speaking in his first interview since signing for Man United, the 30-year-old praised Fred - hailing his fellow countryman as a 'great player'.

The Brazil international also revealed that he spoke to Fred before signing for Man United.

Asked about the 29-year-old, Casemiro said: "Well, before coming here I spoke to Fred.

"He’s a friend who I’ve played alongside in the national team for a good number of games and years. I know him well.

"He’s a great player and that’s why he plays for Manchester United and for the Brazilian national team, which is difficult to get into.

"So, I have a special relationship with him and of course he’s a great player and that’s why he plays for Manchester United."

Casemiro was then asked what makes Fred such a great player to which he replied: "Well, Fred has a lot of qualities.

"I think he’s a player that has good movement. He’s very mobile, passes the ball well, he has a good shot on him, he can play with both feet, left or right, he can pass the ball well with either foot. He’s a great player.

"Again, that’s why he plays for the Brazil and he’s a very important player at this club and I think he’ll help me a great deal as he’s Brazilian. I think he’ll help me a lot at the club and without doubt it’s important for me to have another Brazilian here, too."

Fred was a second-half substitute in his side's big 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday.

He replaced Christian Eriksen, with Casemiro available to make his Man United debut against Southampton on Saturday.
