Champions League draw: pots

Seeded teams: Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Napoli, Porto, Real Madrid

Unseeded teams: Liverpool, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Club Bruges, Eintracht Frankfurt, Inter Milan, Leipzig, Paris St-Germain

The teams that topped their respective groups are seeded and will be drawn against teams that finished second. A club can not be drawn against another side from their own country or group.

In turn, Chelsea will play one of Borussia Dortmund, Club Bruges, Eintracht Frankfurt, Inter Milan, Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain. They can not play AC Milan, who finished behind the Blues in Group E, nor can they play Liverpool, given they are from the same country.

The same rules dictate that Manchester City can only play one of Milan, Bruges, Frankfurt, Inter, Leipzig and PSG.

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham will be drawn against one of Milan, Dortmund, Bruges, Inter, Leipzig, or PSG.

Liverpool may have a tough last-16 test on the horizon. Klopp’s side can only be drawn against Bayern Munich, Benfica, Porto or Real Madrid, given three teams are English and Napoli won their group.

Champions League draw: Who to watch out for

No team will want to face Napoli. Luciano Spalletti’s side are unbeaten and five points clear at the top of Serie A, while they dazzled in the Champions League group stages.

Napoli’s defeat to Liverpool in the final group game is the only time they have lost all season.

Of course, German giants Bayern Munich will also want to be avoided, even if they have underwhelmed in the Bundesliga this term.

European champion Real Madrid will be the last team anyone will want to face. Even when the odds are stacked against them Los Blancos always find a way to get to the latter stages of the competition.

The English teams will also be hoping to avoid facing Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar's Paris St-Germain. The French champions have not lost a competitive game since March and only finished second in Group H due to Benfica’s late flurry of goals.

Meanwhile, Inter may prove to be a tough opponent, with the club having knocked out Barcelona and RB Leipzig in the Groups stages.
