'This must sting!' - footage emerges of Chelsea fans' spine-tingling chant during Manchester City's 4-0 FA Cup win

"Sends a powerful message to the owners. Hopefully, it's sung more." Some Chelsea fans on social media fully approved of the chant.

Chelsea fans were singing their hearts out for former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel during Manchester City’s 4-0 thumping win in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Tuchel, who led the Premier League club to the Champions League title in his first season, was axed by Chelsea last September after a third defeat of the season.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly had cracked open the club’s war chest and spent a staggering £255.3m on signings last summer, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Graham Potter arrived at Stamford Bridge following Tuchel’s dismissal, but the former Brighton boss has come under mounting pressure over Chelsea’s form.

Chelsea were outplayed and outclassed in a dominating performance from City at the Etihad, with Potter’s men humiliated in the FA Cup third round.

However, footage quickly made the rounds on social media (which can be viewed above in the video player) of Chelsea fans’ spine-tingling chant for ‘super Tommy Tuchel’ in the away end.

“Sends a powerful message to the owners. Hopefully, it’s sung more,” one fan simply tweeted.

While another Chelsea supporter added: “Until this man comes back, I’m not watching any more matches.”

“Please bring him back and make Graham Potter his assistant, at least he can learn a few basics from him,” a third Twitter user wrote.

Someone else commented: “Boehly, if he had any shame, should be on his knees begging Tuchel to come back.”

And a fifth fan said: “This must sting if I [were] Potter.”

Goals from Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden alongside a Riyad Mahrez brace ensured City booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup.

Speaking after the FA Cup defeat, Potter was asked about the Tuchel chants and claimed he understood the Chelsea supporters’ frustration.

“We can’t do anything apart from do our jobs better and work harder,” he said.

“We understand the supporters’ frustration, that is understandable and we’ll respect that.

“Our job is to do our jobs, to keep working, see the situation for what it is and, of course, there are always other opinions, negativity and criticism because the results haven’t been positive. That’s part of the job and the challenge.”
