Chelsea next permanent manager odds: Who are the favourites to replace Graham Potter?

After months of speculation over his future, Graham Potter was finally sacked by Chelsea on Sunday.

The former Brighton boss was dismissed following Chelsea's 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, a result which left the club languishing down in 11th place in the Premier League.

Potter lasted just six months in the job and his departure leaves owner Todd Boehly searching for a third permanent manager since his consortium completed its takeover of the club in May of last year.

Attention has already turned to who might replace Potter as permanent manager at Stamford Bridge.

Here are the current frontrunners, according to Sky Bet.

Julian Nagelsmann – 1/2

Nagelsmann is searching for his next role after being sacked by Bayern Munich last month and replaced with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, a move which surprised many.

Tottenham, who are also without a permanent manager after sacking former Blues boss Antonio Conte, have also been linked with the German.

But a move for Nagelsmann is complicated by his contract with Bayern Munich, who are still paying him until he finds a new job or until his deal expires in 2026.

As such, any club that wants to sign appoint him as manager will have to stump up millions to buy him out of his contract with Bayern.

Bruno Saltor – 7/2

Former Brighton defender Bruno joined Chelsea as part of Potter's backroom staff and has now been replaced in temporary charge of the side while the club conducts the search for a new manager.

He will take charge of the team for the first time on Tuesday night when they face a wounded Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

While he has no experience of senior management, Saltor could stake a claim for the role on a permanent basis if he can mastermind an upturn in form in the final months of the season.

Brendan Rodgers – 6/1

Former Liverpool boss Rodgers is also out of work, having been sacked by Leicester just hours before Potter's departure from Chelsea.

Rodgers initially impressed with Leicester and came close to finishing in the top four in two successive seasons before winning the FA Cup in 2021.

But the Foxes have struggled in the current campaign and are now second bottom of the table after losing to relegation rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday, a defeat which convinced the club to part ways with Rodgers.

Nevertheless, he is being strongly linked with an immediate return to football with Chelsea, where he began his coaching career under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.
