Chelsea fan causes controversy after listing nine players they'd sell to fund 'a real rebuild process'

Chelsea are in crisis.

A Chelsea fan has caused debate on social media after listing nine players he'd sell to fun a 'real rebuild' under manager Graham Potter.

The Blues have had a nightmare season which got worse on Sunday evening after being thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Potter was appointed in September after the club sacked Thomas Tuchel, but he's had a poor start to life at Stamford Bridge.

It's not like Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has refused to spend money. They splashed £278 million over the summer and have signed David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Benoit Badiashile this month.

What can't be denied is the Chelsea squad is bloated. Supporters online believe years of mismanagement have culminated in a team made up of players several managers desired.

Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League, out of both cup competitions and unlikely to make the top four. The season is a write-off already.

@InfamousChelsea decided to take a look at Chelsea's squad, coming up with nine players he'd consider selling to give Potter a clean slate. Some of his choices are very controversial.

His tweet reads: "I have 9 players here Chelsea could sell off and start the real rebuild process. In total these prices would net us £230 million, it could be more who knows. We can have a healthy debate in the mentions about any player."

The nine players listed are summer signings Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in addition to Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.

Aubameyang aside, who wasn't even in the squad for the City game over the weekend, the other eight players have featured regularly under Potter.

One person said: "You can’t even say no to any of these being sold either, that’s the worrying thing."

Another tweeted: "Agree with you on this. Cut our losses. Move them all on."

A third put: "Unfortunately this is never gonna happen."

While someone added: "I'd add a few more on but spot on."

Potter received support from City manager Pep Guardiola in his post-match press conference. Guardiola stressed Boehly must give his opposing number time if he wants his project to succeed.

Guardiola said: "I know in big clubs, results are important but I'd say give him time.

"The second half is what he is. What he's done at Brighton is outstanding, but...we need time in the first season.

"I had (Lionel) Messi in Barcelona my first season so I didn't need two seasons because Messi was there."
