Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has mistakenly claimed that Mohamed Salah AND Kevin De Bruyne were club academy graduates.

The Premier League side boasts one of the best academies in the country, having produced top talents over the years.

From first-teamers Reece James and Mason Mount to Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham, to name but a few.

But Boehly bizarrely namedropped two high-profile stars who did not graduate from the club's academy.

In praising Chelsea's youth set-up, the 48-year-old listed Salah and De Bruyne as academy graduates.

Speaking to SALT, he said: "We have one of the best academies in the world.

"If you look at what our academy has developed, our academy is Mo Salah, Kevin De Bruyne.

"More recently Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Mason Mount, Trevoh Chalobah.

"We have 10 or 11 players right now that are either on loan and controlled by us, we have the right to buy them back, or they're playing for our team or academy."

Salah graduated from Al Mokawloon's youth academy while De Bruyne came through the ranks at Genk.

The American businessman added: "You figure out how to make the academy, that is so top, to collaborate with the first team, you show players the pathway, you teach them about how you’re thinking about the future.

"You treat players in the academy as academy products, not players. La Masia has done an amazing job.

"Chelsea is the biggest brand that one can own in sports worldwide."

But, to Boehly's point, Chelsea's academy has become renowned for producing a conveyor belt of talent.

The aforementioned James and Mount are not only Chelsea regulars, but also fully fledged England internationals.

Though the idea of them developing Salah and De Bruyne is way off the mark.
