Christian Eriksen Joins Manchester United On Free Transfer After Leaving Brentford

Christian Eriksen Joins Manchester United On Free Transfer After Leaving Brentford

Eriksen has signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international joins the Red Devils on a free transfer after leaving Brentford at the end of last season.

Eriksen, 30, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Old Trafford and becomes the club's second signing of the summer after Tyrell Malacia.

"Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started," Eriksen told United's website.

"I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling.

"I have seen Erik [ten Hag]'s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach.

"Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future.

"I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey."

Brentford had been keen to keep Eriksen, who joined the club on a six-month contract in January.

His return to football with the London club capped a remarkable recovery for Eriksen, who nearly died after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

Eriksen impressed during his brief spell with the Bees, scoring one goal and providing four assists in 11 games for Thomas Frank's side.

The former Tottenham midfielder has now sealed a move to United, who beat Melbourne Victory 4-1 in their second pre-season friendly on Friday.

United's football director, John Murtough, says he is delighted to have secured the signature of Eriksen, who has scored 52 goals and provided 71 assists in the Premier League.

"Christian has been one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe throughout his career," said Murtough.

"It is no surprise that he had so many options this summer, so we are really happy that he was convinced that this is the right club for him.

"In addition to his outstanding technique, Christian will add valuable experience and leadership skills to the squad, and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits of these qualities on the pitch this coming season and beyond."
