Fans blame Thibaut Courtois' goalkeeping after Morocco beat Belgium 2-0 at the World Cup

Fans blame Thibaut Courtois' goalkeeping after Morocco beat Belgium 2-0 at the World Cup

Fans reckon Thibaut Courtois should have done better for Morocco's opening goal.

Fans online have slammed Thibaut Courtois following Belgium's crushing 2-0 defeat to Morocco at the World Cup.

Belgium opened their World Cup campaign with an underwhelming 1-0 victory over Canada last Wednesday.

And they looked sluggish against Morocco on Sunday as they succumbed to the North African country.

Hakim Ziyech thought he had scored just before the break when he whipped in a free-kick past Courtois, but the goal was disallowed.

However, Morocco eventually scored from a free-kick in the second half after Abdelhamid Sabiri curled a shot into the back of the net.

But fans online blamed the Real Madrid stopper, taking aim at him on social media.

One Twitter user wrote: "Courtois should be saving that man."

A second tweeted: "So Courtois really conceded from the free kick? Real Madrid fans swore he was better than Ter Stegen. You just have to laugh."

A third added: "Can everyone now please stop lying and trying to convince themselves that Courtois is better than Alisson."

A Liverpool fan said: "If only Courtois played like that CL final."

Another commented: "Why couldn't Courtois be that s**t when we played them in the Champions League final..."

Courtois was given a warning in the first half, but couldn't prevent the free-kick in the second half as their World Cup qualification now hangs in the balance.

Morocco added a second in stoppage time after Ziyech picked out Zakaria Aboukhlal, who smashed home from close range.

As it stands, Belgium occupy second place in Group F on three points. They resume their Qatar venture next Thursday when they take on Croatia.

Morocco, on the other hand, currently sit at the top of their group, with four points on the board. They face Canada in their last game of the group stage round.
