Cristiano Ronaldo performs new celebration after scoring for Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice, following up his brace against Liechtenstein.

Cristiano Ronaldo performed a new celebration after scoring for Portugal against Luxembourg.

After suffering a disappointing World Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of Morocco in December, where Ronaldo was a substitute - the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is continuing to bang in the goals for his country.

He bagged a brace in the 4-0 win over Lichtenstein to kick off Roberto Martinez's reign as Portugal boss and followed it up with another pair of strikes on Sunday evening.

And the 38-year-old had a different goal celebration after scoring the opener nine minutes in. For years now he's been doing the 'SIUU' and it's taken a life of its own, becoming a viral meme and one of the most iconic celebrations in football.

On some occasions an entire stadium full of fans have screamed the shout in unison with Ronaldo, who also memorably did it after winning the Ballon d'Or.

But more recently he also displayed a finger-locking gesture where he closed his eyes and it is said to be a 'self deprecating' celebration according to Manchester United.

So when he found the net at the Luxembourg Stadium, Ronaldo decided to combine the two in a super celebration - producing the trademark jump and seamlessly transitioning into the pose.

He's merged celebrations before, having paired the SIUU with Paulo Dybala's signature mask gesture during their time together at Juventus.

Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva were also on target in a first-half Portugal rout.

Ronaldo debuted his second signature celebration after firing in his 700th club goal for United against Everton at Goodison Park.

It has even made its way onto FIFA 23, with gamers able to troll their opponents after finding the net with Real Madrid's record goalscorer.

At the time of writing, Ronaldo, Portugal's record scorer, has 122 goals in 197 appearances for his country.
