Cristiano Ronaldo releases statement after leaving Man United with immediate effect

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken following his Man United departure.

Cristiano Ronaldo has released a statement following his stunning Manchester United exit.

Ronaldo, 37, is to leave Man United with immediate effect as a result of the controversial interview he gave to Piers Morgan last week.

Both parties stated that the superstar forward's departure was 'mutually agreed' in a statement released by the club.

Ronaldo, who's currently on international duty with Portugal at the World Cup, has also released a statement in wake of his sudden exit from Old Trafford.

"Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract," the statement reads.

"I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.

"It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge.

"I wish Man Utd all the best."

As for Man United's statement, it reads: "Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

"Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch."

Ronaldo took aim at the club's infrastructure, Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick and Wayne Rooney during his explosive interview.

He's now without a club, having pushed for a move away during the summer transfer window.

He had been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, but failed to secure a switch in the summer.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus man will return from Qatar looking for a new side ahead of the second half of the season.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, is in line to start for Portugal as they open their World Cup campaign on Thursday against Ghana.
