Cristiano Ronaldo was still trying to claim Bruno Fernandes' goal at full-time, the footage is hilarious

Fernandes scored two in Portugal's 2-0 win over Uruguay.

Hilarious footage of Cristiano Ronaldo attempting to claim Bruno Fernandes' first goal following Portugal's 2-0 win over Uruguay has emerged.

Portugal qualified for the World Cup round of 16 on Monday evening with a second consecutive victory in Group H.

Fernando Santos' side went ahead in the second half after Fernandes floated a cross into the box.

It flew past Sergio Rochet, with Ronaldo wheeling away in celebration as if he'd got the final touch with a glancing header.

Despite ITV Sport commentators believing the five-time Ballon d'Or winner did get a touch, FIFA officially awarded the goal to Fernandes.

The Manchester United midfielder doubled his tally in added time from the penalty spot after Jose Maria Gimenez was harshly judged to have handled the ball.

Ronaldo was replaced by Goncalo Ramos at 1-0. If you think he spent that time coming to the realisation he didn't actually score, think again.

He made his way back onto the Lusail Stadium turf at full-time to try and claim his ninth goal at a World Cup finals.

The 37-year-old repeatedly touched his head and hair while in discussion with what appears to be an official. He eventually accepted defeat, extending his arms in trademark fashion. Check out the video below.

Portugal will top Group H as long as they avoid defeat to South Korea in their final game on Friday.

Santos was pleased with how his players performed against Uruguay, who knocked Portugal out of the 2018 World Cup.

He told reporters in his post-match press conference: "It was a challenging game. Our opponent made things quite tricky for us. They put a lot of pressure on us, and we had difficulties moving the ball, but we managed to find some space.

"We had control of the game and with good chances. Uruguay have played very well. We have to admit it. We prevented them from doing what they do best, counterattacking.

"Uruguay could have won, but we managed to win and we are moving to the next phase."

Elsewhere, Uruguay will have to beat Ghana to qualify for the last 16.

Ghana defeated South Korea 3-2 earlier on Monday in one of the games of the tournament so far.
