Eagle-eyed fans agree with a theory that potentially explains why Cristiano Ronaldo knew Portugal’s opener against Uruguay at the World Cup wasn’t his goal.
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock for Portugal early into the second half, but Ronaldo initially appeared to flick the ball on with his head.
However, it was later ruled that Portugal’s opener was the result of Fernandes’ cross beating Uruguay ‘keeper Sergio Rochet rather than Ronaldo heading the ball.
Fernandes ensured Portugal’s victory on the night by converting an injury-time penalty after VAR intervened and ruled that Jose Gimenez had handled the ball.

TalkTV host Piers Morgan believes that the goal should have been awarded to Ronaldo, who would have moved alongside Eusebio as Portugal’s World Cup record goalscorer.
Now, former Venezuela international Alejandro Moreno believes that Ronaldo already knew that the wait for his ninth World Cup goal would continue.
According to Moreno, Ronaldo knew he didn’t touch the ball from Fernandes’ cross because the Portugal captain “didn’t even give it the full ‘si’” on Monday.

“You know how he knows he hasn’t touched it? Because he didn’t even give it the full ‘si,’” Moreno said.
One fan posted in response to Moreno’s claim: “Exactly! This is what I’ve been saying. He knows he didn’t touch it, that’s why he didn’t give it his signature celebration.”
Someone else added: “[I don’t know] why are people even arguing about it, brother didn’t ‘si.’ It’s that simple.”
“That’s what everyone [is] saying,” a third Twitter user wrote.

Portugal’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay at the Lusail Stadium ensured their place in the last 16 of the World Cup.
Fernando Santos’ men, who are top of Group H, will now face South Korea at the Education City Stadium on Friday.
