Cristiano Ronaldo Started Doing His Famous Siuu Celebration In 2008

Ronaldo has officially been doing the now iconic celebration since 2013 whilst at Real Madrid but it started a lot earlier.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been perfecting his famous Siuuuu celebration since 2013, but the first incarnation of it came in 2008 during a Manchester United game.

These days it's not just Ronaldo who shouts 'Siuuuuuu' after scoring a goal, with much of the Old Trafford crowd joining in, in unison with their footballing hero.

The five time Ballon d'Or winner has been doing the mid air pirouette and uncrossing his arms celebration for the past eight years, when he started doing it at Real Madrid.

However it's now been realised that the 36-year-old first did a version of the now iconic celebration back in 2008, in his first spell at Manchester United.

A video of him busting out the movement, without shouting 'Siuuu,' after scoring against Newcastle United in a 6-0 win 13 years ago was shared.

There's no huge jump and turn but he does a little jump and does the arms, before being mobbed by his teammates, and then lets out a scream.

Over the years the move has become a lot bigger in presence but the goal against Newcastle is clearly the origin story of the SIUUUU, no matter what Ronaldo says.

According to the player, the shouting part of the celebration started at Real, "I started to say ‘si’, it’s like ‘yes’, when I was in Real Madrid," he told United's website in 2019.

"When we would win, everyone would say ‘siiiii’ and so I started to say it. I don’t know why, it was natural.”

According to the man himself, his first attempt at the full shabang actually came against Chelsea, “I was in the USA and we played against Chelsea and I don’t know where this is coming from, the celebration," he added.

“I just scored the goal and it just came out. It was just natural, to be honest. Since that, I started to do it more often and I feel like the supporters and the fans see it and they’re like ‘Cristiano, siiiiiiuuuu.'"

Perhaps the most famous time he broke out the scream of 'Siuuu' was when he won the Ballon d'Or in 2014, letting it out as he accepted the awarrd.

United fans won't really care where it started, as long as they're seeing it for quite a while yet and with 13 goals already to his name this season they'll be a few more to come before May at least.
