Darwin Nunez picked up a yellow card for scuffing up the penalty spot despite the Ghana players surrounding it.
The Group H showdown between Uruguay and Ghana sparked into life when the African country were awarded a penalty.
Sergio Rochet brought down Mohammed Kudus, with the match referee pointing to the spot following a VAR review.
Ghana players surrounded the penalty spot to ensure the Uruguay players wouldn't get to it.

The defending of the penalty spot didn't go unnoticed by fans on social media.
One Twitter user wrote: "Ghana surrounding the penalty spot is absolutely hilarious but also absolutely necessary against these sh*thouses."
A second tweeted: "Surrounding the penalty spot... brilliant."
A third added: "Look at Ghana, surrounding the penalty spot so Uruguay can't affect it."

However, Liverpool forward Nunez had other ideas as he infiltrated Ghana's barrier to land a stud on the penalty spot, receiving a caution in the process.
But, just like their explosive 2010 clash, Ghana failed to convert the penalty as Andre Ayew saw his effort saved by Rochet.
Ghana are the ONLY country in World Cup history to miss two penalties against the same opponent in normal time.
Ayew fluffing his lines from the spot proved crucial as Uruguay then replied by opening the scoring.
Giorgian de Arrascaeta put Uruguay in the lead after Luis Suarez had his shot saved.
De Arrascaeta then made it 2-0 after he brilliantly volleyed home.
As it stands, Uruguay are going through to the next of the World Cup, along with Portugal who currently top the group.
