Wolves fan had a priceless reaction to finding out they were signing Diego Costa live on Sky Sports

"Diego Costa?! I saw something on Facebook but I thought it was fake news!"

A Wolverhampton Wanderers fan found out his side were negotiating with Diego Costa live on Sky Sports and his reaction is genuinely box-office.

The forward had his work permit accepted on Wednesday after it was initially rejected by the Home Office earlier in the week.

He's currently at the club's training complex for a medical and excitement is building among most supporters. We stress, most.

One bloke was interviewed outside Molineux and asked about Costa's impending arrival, something he was blissfully unaware of.

"Diego Costa?! He's not coming here is he?" the fan asks.

After being told a transfer is imminent, he continued: "I wasn't aware. I saw something on Facebook but I thought it was fake news! That's absolutely brilliant I thought the transfer window was over."

Costa hasn't played a competitive game since December after leaving Atletico Minero and that originally impacted his Visa status.

Wolves signed Sasa Kalajdzic in the summer from Stuttgart but he suffered an ACL injury in his debut against Southampton last weekend.

That saw manager Bruno Lage make a move for free agent Costa, who won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2017.

Wolves have scored three Premier League goals this campaign and Lage admitted his side were exploring a move for a forward late last month.

He explained: "We want more solutions and we are in the market for more solutions. That’s what I want. We’re trying to find a striker with a different profile from Raul [Jimenez].

"Raul is very good in the dynamic and he’s very good when arriving in the box, and we want a different profile.

"That’s all I can say for you now, and we are there looking for that."

That ended up being Kalajdzic, but he'll be unavailable until 2023.

Andy Carroll was another potential target but that won't be followed up on with Costa en route.

Wolves are currently 14th in the Premier League and have won just one game so far.
