Diego Simeone to 'leave Atletico Madrid' in the summer and tipped for stunning Premier League move

Diego Simeone to 'leave Atletico Madrid' in the summer and tipped for stunning Premier League move

Diego Simeone has been backed to manage in the Premier League if he leaves Atletico Madrid, despite being linked with Inter Milan.

Diego Simeone is set to make his sensational exit from Atletico Madrid and has been tipped to make a stunning move to the Premier League, according to reports.

Simeone, who arrived at the club in 2011, has enjoyed incredible success with Atletico amid the dominance of Spanish football from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Atletico manager broke the Barcelona and Madrid deadlock over the La Liga title by leading the club to the Spanish top-flight trophy on two occasions.

Simeone has also lifted two Europa League titles and the Copa del Rey with Atletico, as well as leading his side to two Champions League finals.

However, Atletico have been underwhelming under Simeone this season and languish fifth in the league table, with the club one point behind Real Betis.

A La Liga title challenge is effectively out of the picture for Atletico, too, with Simeone’s men left a whopping 14 points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Spanish TV show El Chiringuito now reports that Simeone, who is under contract until 2024, has ‘made up his mind’ about his future with Atletico.

The Atletico manager has reportedly spoken with the club’s hierarchy about his desire to leave the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer.

Simeone has been linked with a sensational return to the San Siro with Inter Milan, but the Argentine has also attracted interest from the Premier League in the past.

The 52-year-old was tipped by the likes of Roy Keane to be appointed the next Manchester United manager before the arrival of Erik ten Hag.

Despite missing out on a sensational move to Old Trafford, ex-Atletico defender Kieran Trippier has tipped former boss Simeone to manage in the Premier League.

“I’d love to see him in the Premier League because I think he would be unbelievable,” Trippier, who won the La Liga title under Simeone, said.

“Simeone was incredible with me. He knew how I played. He changed my game defensively. He changed my game and the work I did individually, and I learned so much from him.

“His man-management was incredible. We lived in a compound called La Finca in Madrid. It was like St George’s Park, [with] lakes, fields and stuff.

“You’d see him on walks and try to chat. His wife speaks perfect English. Can he manage in England one day? I would love to see it.

“He is a manager who has to speak fluently because he wants to get his message across. If he couldn’t get his point across, he would get agitated, frustrated."
