Diego Simeone Ruthlessly Trolled For Mistake In Deleted Chess Picture With Son

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has deleted a picture of himself playing chess with his son, Hellas Verona striker Giovanni, after making an obvious mistake.

The Simeone clan are currently on holiday in the Maldives and Diego shared an image of him and Giovanni enjoying a game of chess in the sun.

He captioned it: "Family holidays for the Simeones. Cholo and Gio in a duel that requires a lot of concentration."

What you'll notice is the board is missing a chess piece. It's not just any chess piece either, it's the king.

We don't even want to guess what kind of game 'El Cholo' was playing, but it certainly wasn't chess.

Simeone's post even caught the eye of the International Chess Federation, who cheekily offered to give the former Argentina international a crash course when he returns to Madrid.

They tweeted: "Please tell them that when they return to Madrid we will be happy to offer them a crash course in chess - and invite them to visit the Candidates Tournament, which is taking place these days in the city."

Fans have got in on it too and joked Simeone was playing the ultimate 'park the bus' brand of chess.

One commented: "He hid the king under the board. Parking the bus at its finest."

Someone else said: "Not weird for a guy who plays football without a forward."

A third tweeted: "Try to prove you're a deep-thinker by being picture playing chess but neglect to research the rules of the game."

While another put: "He's found a way to not lose at chess. Simeone masterclas."

Simeone has been in charge of Atletico since 2011 and is regarded as one of the world's top managers.

He's won two La Liga titles, two Europa Leagues and the Copa del Rey in that time while also guiding Atletico to two Champions League finals.

Atletico finished third in La Liga last season and have already gone about reshaping their squad.

Luis Suarez has been allowed to depart while Hector Herrera agreed terms with Houston Dynamo back in March.
