Edinson Cavani physically attacked the VAR monitor after Uruguay's World Cup elimination

Edinson Cavani took his frustration out on the VAR monitor.

Edinson Cavani physically attacked the VAR monitor following Uruguay's devastating World Cup elimination.

Uruguay were knocked out of the tournament following South Korea's stunning 2-1 victory over Portugal, which saw Hwang Hee-chan score his side's winner in the 91st minute.

The South American country are dumped out of the World Cup despite beating Ghana 2-0 - thanks to a first half brace from Giorgian de Arrascaeta.

South Korea qualify for the World Cup last 16 ahead of Uruguay on goals scored, having scored two more goals in the group stage round.

But Uruguay thought they should have had the chance to score from the spot when Cavani was brought down in stoppage time.

A third goal for Uruguay would have seen them advance to the next round on goal difference.

But Daniel Siebert waved away their calls for a penalty to the anger of the Uruguay team. Several players lost their heads as they ambushed the match officials following the final whistle in shocking scenes.

And new footage shows Cavani lashing out at the VAR monitor as the players headed down the tunnel to the dressing rooms.

In the video, the former Manchester United striker can be seen throwing a punch at the VAR monitor, knocking it over in the process.

He then continued to walk down the tunnel, leaving the VAR monitor on the ground as an official stood by it.

Uruguay's elimination upset Luis Suarez, who cut an emotional figure on the bench.

He broke down in tears following South Korea's winning goal. He pulled his shirt over his head in what could be his final World Cup appearance.

Portugal and South Korean advance to the last 16 from Group H, with the Cristiano Ronaldo's team finishing as group winners.
