'No Signs Of Concerns Or Nerves' - Chelsea Star Named As One Of The Club's 'Best-Ever Signings'

'No Signs Of Concerns Or Nerves' - Chelsea Star Named As One Of The Club's 'Best-Ever Signings'

Edouard Mendy's stunning saves for Chelsea in the second half against Brentford ensured that the Blues walked away with all three points.

Edouard Mendy has been hailed as one of Chelsea’s “best-ever signings” after his Man of the Match performance against Brentford on Saturday.

That is according to Tony Cascarino, who claimed Mendy has shown “no signs of concerns or nerves.”

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard brought Mendy to Stamford Bridge in 2020 from Rennes to increase competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Mendy has since established himself as Chelsea’s No 1 under Thomas Tuchel and was in sensational form in last season’s Champions League campaign.

The 29-year-old Senegalese shot-stopper delivered a magnificent performance in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Ben Chilwell opened the scoring before half-time, but Chelsea survived a second-half onslaught from Brentford thanks to a string of excellent saves from Mendy.

Cascarino has now praised Mendy for his stunning performance, adding that he is amazed at how the Chelsea star “seemed to breeze into the team.”

He told talkSPORT: “Chelsea dug deep. Had a goalkeeper that performed miracles and you could argue that he’s been one of Chelsea’s best-ever signings.

“He cost £17million from Rennes, came in and seemed to breeze into the team. Showed no signs of concerns or nerves.

“Yesterday was a day that made you think, ‘Wow.’

“Whoever made the decision, I suspect it was Petr Cech because he was at Rennes as a goalkeeper and will know a lot of people at that football club, and was probably pivotal in that move to get him for Chelsea.”

Despite his fine form and exploits for Chelsea, Mendy was left off of France Football’s 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or.

Mendy’s Senegal teammate Sadio Mane has insisted that it is “unacceptable” that the Chelsea star wasn’t in contention for France Football’s coveted prize.

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly echoed Mane’s comments on Mendy being snubbed for the Ballon d'Or, saying it is a “real shame.”

Chelsea, who are top of the Premier League table, will return to action on Wednesday against Malmo at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League.
