Key tactical change from England boss Southgate has Liverpool fans excited for the future

Key tactical change from England boss Southgate has Liverpool fans excited for the future

Liverpool fans have reacted to reports that Jordan Henderson and Jude Bellingham are set to start England's World Cup clash vs Wales.

Jordan Henderson is reportedly set to start for England in tonight's World Cup clash against Wales - and an anticipated tactical switch from Gareth Southgate has Liverpool fans excited.

Henderson did not play any part in the 6-2 victory over Iran, and started the 0-0 draw with United States on the bench.

But he was brought on for the final 23 minutes of the latter encounter, with Southgate looking to add extra balance to the midfield.

Although the Liverpool midfielder did not make a significant contribution during his cameo appearance, his performance has been rewarded with a start against Wales.

Should England win the game, they are guaranteed to top Group B, with seven points.

Henderson reportedly set to line up in England midfield trio

According to the The Telegraph, Henderson is likely to start alongside Jude Bellingham, who will be in a more advanced role, and Declan Rice as a midfield trio against Wales.

Liverpool have been extensively linked with Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham over recent months, whilst Rice is also a rumoured target as the Reds look to add more depth to central midfield.

Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones have all missed significant time periods this term due to injury, whilst on-loan Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo has been absent since October with a muscle injury.

Henderson and James Milner have been regulars for Liverpool in this campaign, but Milner's contract expires at the end of the season.

Liverpool fans react to likely Henderson selection

The fact that Henderson is reportedly playing alongside Bellingham was not lost on Liverpool fans from a transfer perspective.

Taking to Twitter, one fan reacted by saying: "POV: Liverpool 23/24."

Another wrote: "Next season midfield preview and I'm here for it."

Meanwhile, one fan jokingly claimed: "Southgate took advice from Klopp, as Klopp needs to assess whether they can play together at Liverpool."

They may well be Liverpool team-mates in the future, and Reds fans could get a preview of what is to come should Henderson and Bellingham both put in strong performances against Wales tonight.

The game gets underway at 7pm UK time, with live coverage on BBC One.
