Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals what was really said between him and James Maddison on England duty, he has no chill

Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals what was really said between him and James Maddison on England duty, he has no chill

The Liverpool defender did not hold back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has hit back at James Maddison after his Instagram taunt on England duty.

Maddison savagely trolled the Liverpool defender on Monday, posting a picture of himself and Alexander-Arnold, who appeared to be remonstrating in the image.

Maddison captioned the photo: "Still asking for a replay," accompanied by a sleeping face, laughing and heart emoji.

His taunt came after Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Spurs last month, which was marred by an unforgivable VAR error when officials inexplicably disallowed a Luis Diaz's perfectly legitimate goal.

Alexander-Arnold has since bitten back at his international colleague, aiming a brutal dig at his former club Leicester City which may end the public feud once and for all.

Speaking to Channel 4, the 25-year-old was asked about the Instagram post and if he was really asking Maddison for a replay.

"Nah, he was asking me to teach him how to put a free-kick in the top corner," Alexander-Arnold replied with a wry smile.

"But, I told him. I was just showing him the video when I scored at Leicester last year, and they got relegated," he added, before bursting into fits of laughter.

Maddison was part of the Leicester squad that suffered relegation two weeks after their defeat to Liverpool, before completing a summer a move to Tottenham.

The VAR controversy during Tottenham's win over Liverpool was finally addressed by PGMOL chief Howard Webb on Monday, during the latest broadcast of Match Officials: Mic'd Up.

The former referee indicated measures have been put in place to avoid a repeat of the mistake following reports of a brand new rule with the VAR system.

"We know human error can happen in all walks of life but we have to put things in place to ensure it doesn't have a significant impact like this," Webb said.

"This brought into focus the need to reiterate the communication protocols that are really valuable."
