Manchester United fans call for Erik ten Hag to fine himself after Everton win

Manchester United fans call for Erik ten Hag to fine himself after Everton win

Ten Hag seemed to get everything right, as United defeated Everton in the Premier League, but broke his own rules in the process.

Erik ten Hag was accused of breaking one of his cardinal rules at Manchester United, with some fans even calling for him to fine himself.

On Saturday, it felt like Ten Hag got everything in his control right, as United took on Everton, hoping to keep up their assault on the top four.

After letting things slip recently, they got back to winning ways in midweek, with a win over Brentford, although there was some controversy over Marcus Rashford's goal.

The weekend gave them a chance to keep up momentum, although Sean Dyche had injected new life into the Toffees, earning a point against Tottenham Hotspur in their previous game.

Kwizly Quiz

The United manager made three changes to the starting line up from the win over Brentford, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and the right back somehow missed an open goal.

However, Scott McTominay finally put the team ahead in the 36th minute, when it looked like Jordan Pickford was having the kind of game from the gods.

In the first half, United had 21 shots, with Pickford often coming to his side's rescue, so surely Ten Hag wouldn't have had much to say to his team at the break, outside of 'more of the same.'

But, when the second half kicked off, the United boss wasn't on the touchline, and only appeared a minute or so after, leading to fans to call him out.

"Ten hag late entry?? So unprofessional," one fan noted.

A second questioned the reason for the late arrival, adding, "Ten Hag was late out of the tunnel. He have to take a shit?"

A third said, "Ten Hag gotta fine himself."

Referring to the manager dropping Marcus Rashford earlier this season, a fourth joked, "He'll have to drop himself to the bench, somehow."

Whilst another posted, "Rashford was dropped for less than that, guess Ten Hag will have to manage the reserves."

Earlier in the season, United's top scorer had to sit on the bench at the start of a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, after being late for a team meeting.

The England star came on to score the winner, and likewise Ten Hag recovered from his own faux pas in order to make a telling contribution.

The former Ajax boss brought on Anthony Martial in the second half, with the Frenchman rounding off the scoring for the team.

There will be some worry amongst fans, as Rashford later limped off with what appeared to be a groin injury, with some huge games still to come for the team.

After the match, their manager gave an update on the forward, bemoaning the fact that the team had played three games in just six days.
