Erling Haaland receives guard of honour from Man City players and coaching staff after breaking Premier League record

Erling Haaland was embraced by his teammates following the final whistle.

Erling Haaland received a guard of honour from his Manchester City teammates and the club's coaching staff following his record-breaking showing against West Ham United.

Haaland scored in his side's 3-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday to bring up his 35th league goal of the season.

He produced a lovely dink-finish to make it 2-0, with Nathan Ake and Phil Foden scoring goals either side.

Haaland's haul of 35 league goals this campaign is a new record in England's top flight, beating Andy Cole and Alan Shearer's 34 league goals in the 93/94 and 94/95 seasons respectively.

After the final whistle, Pep Guardiola orchestrated a guard of honour for his superstar forward in a special moment.

Guardiola hailed Haaland after the result, calling him a 'special' talent in glowing praise.

"Incredible. He's just 22 - and still has five games left," he said. "How many games I made the substitution after a hat-trick in 60 minutes, maybe he'd have scored more. But maybe he'd have got injured. He's special. Congratulations to him.

"We expected him to score goals but to break Cole and Shearer record's... I'm pretty sure what he wants is to win the Premier League. We have one game in hand but still just one point in front. We have to keep going and recover well."

The 22-year-old has now scored a staggering 51 goals in all competitions as the Blues continue to fight on three fronts.

The victory over the Hammers moves them above Arsenal to top of the table, one point clear having played a game less than Mikel Arteta's team.

Pep Guardiola's side have 79 points on the board and have five league games remaining.

Man City remain in the Champions League and face cross-town rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Haaland will be looking to improve his goal-scoring record in both of those competitions, having scored 12 goals in Europe and three goals in the FA Cup this term.
