How Man City beat Bayern Munich to sign Erling Haaland as new transfer information emerges

Bayern Munich were prepared to break their financial structure to land Erling Haaland.

New information has emerged regarding Manchester City's transfer of Erling Haaland as Bayern Munich WERE prepared to break their financial structure to sign the superstar forward.

Man City activated Haaland's £66 million release clause as they lured him away from Borussia Dortmund, securing his services on a five-year deal.

They beat a host of clubs to the signing of the Norwegian phenom, including Real Madrid and Manchester United, not to mention Bayern.

Fresh reports suggest the German giants were prepared to break their salary cap for Haaland and pay him around £31 million-per-year as well as the £66 million release clause.

However, according to Kicker, the Premier League club topped Bayern's offer and couldn't keep up with their English counterparts. The player's choice was between Man City and Bayern.

Man City pipped Bayern after tabling a massive financial package, which includes an eye-watering contract.

The 22-year-old takes home upwards of £865,000-a-week including bonuses.

Haaland has enjoyed a blistering start to his Man City career, having scored an impressive 44 goals in all competitions.

He's the leading scorer in the league, with 30 goals to his name as he increased his goal tally last Saturday.

Haaland bagged a stunning brace in his side's win over Southampton, including an outrageous bicycle kick goal.

Speaking after the game at St Mary's, Pep Guardiola compared his star man to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"We have lived with [Lionel] Messi and Cristiano [Ronaldo] for two incredible decades - and now Haaland is on that level," he said.

"You see how many games Erling has played during his professional career and you compare the goals he has scored in that time to Messi and Cristiano, it’s quite similar.

"I think Messi is a more complete player. The other two, Cristiano and Haaland, are like machines.

"But Erling knows the other two guys have dominated for two decades, not just one year. They have scored goals, won titles and done absolutely everything.

"Erling is just 22 years old and he is doing it in the toughest league in the world. I can talk because I’ve been in other leagues. Doing what he is doing is remarkable.

"To reach the level of Cristiano and Messi takes a lot of work. But Erling puts pressure on himself like Messi and Ronaldo.

"When he doesn’t score two or three goals he says, 'what’s the problem, what’s the problem?' The numbers he has at his age are unbelievable."
