Fabio Vieira scores stunning strike for Arsenal during friendly against Lyon

Mikel Arteta’s side are currently in Dubai for warm-weather training

Fabio Vieira scored a stunning goal for Arsenal during their friendly match against Lyon on Thursday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side are currently in the United Arab Emirates for warm-weather training and were taking on Ligue 1 side Lyon in the Dubai Super Cup.

The Gunners are without some of their key players such as Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Martinelli through World Cup participation. Whilst Gabriel Jesus is facing months on the touchline after undergoing knee surgery.

Therefore, Arteta gave starts to fringe players such as Vieira, Eddie Nketiah and Mohammed Elneny.

Brazilian centre-half Gabriel Magalhaes headed his side in front after 19 minutes after a delicious Martin Odegaard cross.

Nektiah then doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 33rd minute. Vieira then finished off a fine team move with a stunning left-footed shot that arrowed into the top corner in the 39th minute, leaving Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes diving in despair. You can watch the goal below.

Fans were quick to react to the Portuguese playmaker’s effort.

One said: “I don't care if it's a friendly. That was freaking amazing.”

Another tweeted: “God,I can't put my feelings into words. Miss you sm Arsenal.”

A third fan added: “Brilliant passing & what a brilliant goal by Vieira.”

Someone else wrote: “Announce the League already.. we're cooking.”

It was an impressive first-half display as Arsenal went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead. At the start of the second half, Vieira was replaced by Marquinhos.

Prior to the World Cup break, Arsenal were flying in the Premier League as they sit top of the table with 37 points, five points ahead of champions Manchester City.

After missing out on Champions League qualification last season, many fans were starting to lose faith in Arteta.

However, the Spaniard has managed to restore newfound optimism into the Gunners’ fanbase as they look to fend off Pep Guardiola’s side and win a first title since 2004.
