Petr Cech Apologises After Mistake Against Swansea Costs Arsenal

Petr Cech made a high profile error on Tuesday night handing Swansea their second goal of the game and a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Now the Arsenal goalkeeper has sent a message to the fans.

When Jose Mourinho decided that Thibaut Courtois was going to be Chelsea's number one and the club allowed Petr Cech to move to Arsenal it was seen as a great piece of business by the Gunners.

Cech was thought to be worth '15 points' to Arsenal's cause and on his debut for Arsene Wenger's side he even kept a clean sheet in the Community Shield against his old club.

However whilst things haven't exactly been a disaster he also hasn't shown the form that made him one of the best keepers in the Premier League era whilst at Stamford Bridge.

Last night Arsenal faced bottom of the table Swansea and at 1-1 Cech made a horrific error when the 35 year old could only slice Shkodran Mustafi's backpass straight to Jordan Ayew for a tap in. The visitors would go on to lose 3-1 and Cech took to Twitter after the match to send a message to fans:

The north London club had taken the lead when Nacho Monreal put them 1-0 up after 33 minutes but the lead lasted less than a minute with Sam Clucas making it 1-1.

Cech then made his error just after the hour mark, with debutant Henrikh Mkhitaryan having come off the bench to improve things just a minute before. Finally with just four minutes of normal time remaining Clucas made it 3-1.

The win, Swansea's second against top six opposition in 10 days, took the Swans off the bottom of the table and out of the relegation zone with the three clubs below them set to play on Wednesday night.

Arsenal's loss means they are still five points below local rivals Spurs, who play Manchester United on Wednesday, but more importantly are now eight points behind Liverpool in the Champions League places after the Reds win over Huddersfield.

Wenger and everyone at the club will be hoping the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is worth 15 points, otherwise it'll be another year without Champions League football at the Emirates.
