Fans Not Happy At FA Cup Final Referee Who's Also Annoyed Jurgen Klopp

Fans Not Happy At FA Cup Final Referee Who's Also Annoyed Jurgen Klopp

Craig Pawson is set to referee the game between Liverpool and Chelsea on Saturday, and fans don't seem happy about the news.

Craig Pawson has been named as the referee for Saturday's FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea, and the news hasn't gone down well with everyone.

Saturday could be the day Liverpool take the latest big step on their pursuit of what could still be an incredible quadruple of trophies come the end of the season.

Standing in their way at Wembley is once again Chelsea, who came within a couple of millimeters of taking the lead in their extremely entertaining 0-0 draw in the Carabao Cup final back in February, which needed penalties to separate the sides.

There was controversy in that match with three goals disallowed for the teams, due to offsides, with VAR having to be brought in to rule them out.

On Saturday it's down to Pawson to make the decisions, with the help of Paul Tierney in the booth at Stockley Park, fresh from Mikel Arteta's unhappiness with him, and the referee appointment hasn't made fans happy at all.

Despite the fact that it's mainly Liverpool fans who seem to have a problem with Pawson being the man in charge on Saturday, the Reds don't have a particularly bad record with the 43-year-old being ref.

Pawson has been a Premier League referee since 2013 and has taken charge of the Anfield side on 31 occasions, and they've only suffered six defeats in that time.

They did however lose to West Ham United earlier this season with the man from Sheffield making decisions, in a match that left Jurgen Klopp unhappy.

There was plenty of controversy in the game, as the Reds felt Alisson was fouled in the build up to the opening goal and each side could have had a man sent off.

After game Klopp was not happy with some of the decisions, saying, "I think it's a clear foul on Alisson, the arm from Ogbonna is here. The referee made it easy for himself and said 'that's see what the VAR is saying'.

"They said not clear and obvious - I don't know why - which is really strange. It's not man marking, it's blocking the goalkeeper.

"People will say I'm looking for excuses, I'm not. I accept we're not too good to lose football games. Today we lost it, that's not nice but I accept it.

"But when we speak about situations in a game you just need normal decisions from a referee. He didn't do that.

"The way I saw it (the Cresswell tackle on Henderson), it was a clear red card. No discussion possible. You cannot go like this into a challenge.

"But we cannot make these decisions obviously and I didn't know what the ref would say now, but in the game he looked confident his decisions were correct. It's all about the ref."

Pawson will certainly be in the spotlight come kick off at Wembley on Saturday, will he and the other officials be called upon for a big decision?
