The best Fantasy Football differential picks for gameweek 2

The best Fantasy Football differential picks for gameweek 2

These players have low ownership, but they're certainly worth considering for your team.

As we progress through the season, we’ll see lower owned players start to come to light that are a differential from the more popular picks.

Each week, I’ll take a look a few players to consider who may make the difference for you if you choose to draft them into your FPL team.

Nathan Ake, Man City (£5.0m)

  • 1.1% owned

Uncertainty over whether the Dutchman Ake or John Stones would start the season probably put paid to mass adoption of the former Bournemouth defender, but he performed admirably against West Ham and contributed to the clean sheet, for which he was awarded 1 bonus point in FPL.

It’s not so much Ake himself I’m endorsing here, more the idea of doubling up on Man City’s defence. Joao Cancelo (£7.0m) is owned by nearly half (45%) of managers, meaning a clean sheet for the Cityzens doesn’t really do much for your rank if you own him too.

One way to increase your gains is getting another defender – and a cheap option like Ake or Kyle Walker (also £5.0m) could be a good idea to ensure you’re getting those extra points on your rivals who may own one.

After all, why not profit from the best defence in the league?

Dejan Kulusevski, Spurs (£8.0m)

  • 9.7% owned

A 13 point haul and an eye catching performance for the super Swede against Southampton has been met with some interest in the transfer market (he’s the 4th most bought player at the time of writing), but he’s still less than 10% owned.

That’s because they have Chelsea up next, meaning potential owners are adopting a more cautious approach.

I’m one of these who is looking at “Kulu”, who managed an impressive 6.3 points per start last season, but I’m likely to wait until after the Chelsea when Spurs’ run becomes excellent.

Ivan Toney, Brentford (£7.0m)

  • 5.6% owned

Brentford’s main man did what he promised to do last season and scored on the opening day to pull the Bees toward their eventual 2-2 draw with Leicester.

Although that was his only shot on target, it still showed how lethal he can be if he’s given a chance, plus he created 2 chances on the day too.

He’s got Manchester United up next, but then embarks on a run of fixtures between Gameweeks 3-8 that sees him play no team from last season’s top 6; could he be one to keep an eye on to make the difference?
