Fans confused after Rafael Leao, Lisandro Martinez and Antony go bald on FIFA 23

There's a simple explanation behind the change in graphics.

if you haven't already noticed by now, a number of players, including Rafael Leao, Lisandro Martinez and Antony, have recently gone bald on FIFA 23.

EA Sports promised "the most advanced gameplay" and "deepest modes" in the franchise's history, as well cross-play features for those with next-gen consoles, ahead of its official release on September 30.

In total, there are 19,000 players from more than 700 teams and over 30 leagues; not to mention the addition of the Barclays Women’s Super League in England and France's Division 1 Arkema.

But there have been a few 'minor' issues since the new edition dropped last month, and one of those came this week, when a host of gamers shared pictures and videos of players with no hair.

So what's the reason behind the change in graphics? Well, it appears the FIFA 23 Title Update 2, which was officially released on October 12th on all consoles, has played a part.

According to a number of fans, including Reddit user kalazani, the same glitch happened in FIFA 20, when they were updating 'star heads' in the opening weeks of release.

It looks like Leao, Lisandro Martinez and Antony – amongst others – will receive real face scans in-game when a new update rolls out, but that didn't stop the mass confusion online.

Here are some of the reactions from social media.

Last month, Arsenal fans criticised FIFA 23 for the questionable game faces of Mikel Arteta, Fabio Vieira, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Albert Sambi Lokonga, to name just a few.

The likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe also look unrecognisable.

One fan tweeted: "Hey @EASPORTSFIFAis there a particular reason why Arsenal’s players and manager look so inaccurate in your new game? Are you not allowed to use their likenesses or something? Genuinely curious. Feel free to DM.”

While another said: "FIFA 23 has done Arsenal dirty.”
