Florentino Perez Names Real Madrid’s ‘Transfer Of The Century’, It’s Not Cristiano Ronaldo

Florentino Perez Names Real Madrid’s ‘Transfer Of The Century’, It’s Not Cristiano Ronaldo

Is it a surprising choice?

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has described the signing of Toni Kroos as the club's "transfer of the century", according to the German midfielder’s agent.

Kroos joined Real Madrid on a six-year deal from Bayern Munich in 2014 after impressing for Germany at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Madrid spent around £22m to sign Kroos, who has gone on to win numerous pieces of silverware in Spain, including two league titles and the Champions League three times.

The 31-year-old remains a key player at Madrid after recovering from a recent groin injury and has now amassed more than 330 appearances for the club.

Kroos’ agent Volke Struth says Madrid president Perez views the midfielder as one of his greatest ever signings.

"He is an unbelievably pleasant person with a great life story," Struth said of Perez to OMR-Podcast.

"He is entrepreneurial but remains human. He explained to me why Toni Kroos is Real Madrid's transfer of the century."

Kroos courted controversy last month by claiming Lionel Messi did not deserve to win the Ballon d’Or.

Messi won the award for a seventh time ahead of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Chelsea’s Jorginho, but Kroos believes it should have gone to his Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema.

"It's absolutely not deserved," Kroos said on his official podcast.

"There is no doubt that Messi, with Cristiano [Ronaldo], has been the player of the last decade, but this year there should've been others ahead of him."

Kroos added: "For me, Karim would have been the number one if you were really looking for the best individual player of the last year, because I can see from close quarters what an outstanding footballer he is.”
