Glen Johnson Doesn't Hold Back In Brutal Assessment Of Saido Berahino

Glen Johnson has brutally assessed Saido Berahino's career while the duo were at Stoke City together.

Berahino joined Stoke in January 2017 for a fee of £12 million after losing his way at West Bromwich Albion where he initially made a big impact as a youngster.

However, his career never kicked on and following a number of off the pitch incidents including a drink driving case led to 'The Potters' cancelling his contract with three years remaining on it yesterday.

Speaking to talkSPORT, former Liverpool defender Johnson went in hard on Berahino on a number of subjects.

The 34-year-old says that the Burundi international purposely went 'against the grain' on a number of issues including time to arrive at training as well as dress code.

He also stated that he wouldn't take on the former England U-21 striker at a club, even if he was paid to do so.

"If he paid me to play, I still wouldn't want him."

Johnson also discussed an incident which saw Berahino not come into training, despite the session happening because of him.

Due to Berahino not applying himself 100% in a post match training session, the whole Stoke squad had to come in for training on one of their days off.

"Because Saido didn't run afterwards, everybody had to come in on that day even the players that played the game.

"What happened Sunday morning we all turn up for training and Saido phones in sick, doesn't even turn up.

"We're only there because of him and then he doesn't even turn up so there was uproar, it's total disrespect for the staff and players, it's what he was like on a daily basis."

Johnson goes on to say he doesn't personally like the 26-year-old.

"I've worked with loads of players that might not be up to the level but they were nice people and they'll work hard and try.

"He wasn't at the level and he didn't try so it was hard to accept."

It's a far fall from grace for the striker who was once touted as being one of England's hottest prospects.
