Manchester United have lined up a potential replacement for Harry Maguire, with Jules Koundé the latest player reportedly on the Red Devils' radar.

The Frenchman has risen to prominence at Sevilla and El Nacional reports that a fee of €90million would be enough to bring him to Old Trafford.

Chelsea and Real Madrid are also keen on the 22-year-old, but it is reported that United is his first-choice destination.

Koundé has now broken into the France senior team, and was part of the most recent squad that won the UEFA Nations League.

The club apparently ended their interest in Koundé during their pursuit of his compatriot Raphael Varane. The United hierarchy thought he would end up at Chelsea and instead focused on their summer pursuits of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

The youngster is now being tipped to take Maguire's spot in the team, following the captain's error-strewn display in the 4-2 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.

It was already United's fourth defeat of the season in all competitions, as Saturday's loss moved United five points adrift of league leaders Chelsea. They have 14 points from 8 games in the Premier League, after also losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Red Devils were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle following a 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham United, while BSC Young Boys secured a 2-1 win over the Red Devils in the opening round of Champions League fixtures.

There are no major doubts that United can challenge for top honours this season, and the excuses are running out for Solskjaer after a hefty summer of spending to take them closer to a Premier League title challenge.

The club are also facing a daunting run of fixtures and now turn their attention to a Champions League clash at home to Atalanta, before welcoming Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday. They end the month with a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face Spurs on 30th October.
